Community Safety...
The role of the Fire and Rescue Service has changed considerably over the last few years. Everyone knows we respond to incidents, but many people do not realise we spend a lot of time promoting fire safety initiatives to the public, aimed at reducing the number of deaths and injuries caused by fire.
"Prevention is better than cure."
This page and the pages within are about education and prevention on a number of Community Safety issues. Go to our Downloads page for downloadable advice, also availible in bilingual format.

ROAD SAFETY
As part of our ongoing Community Safety programme, we have put together a one hour presentation on Road Safety, specifically aimed at highlighting the dangers posed to young drivers. The presentation is called 'Young driver awareness.'

'Young driver awareness' is quite hard hitting and focuses on drink driving, tyre safety, hazard perception, driving too fast and mobile phones. It includes case studies of road traffic collisions and video footage taken from national Road Safety campaigns.
At the end of the presentation, the students are given the chance to
watch us extricate a casualty from a
vehicle, witness the techniques and
equipment used and ask any questions.
Blue Watch have delivered the presentation to several schools and colleges and have received some very positive feedback to date. For more advice, go to our Road Safety page.

This page and the pages contained within are regularly checked against existing and new safety information. This page was last updated on 15/05/2006 13:09
